N423SA is a Fokker F27 Mk.600, MSN 10594. It entered service with Swift Aire in 1980 before passing to Brockway Air, which operated five F27s under the Piedmont Commuter banner between 1986 and 1987. In that configuration—white fuselage, bold blue cheatline, "PIEDMONT COMMUTER" in red italic lettering above the windows—N423SA worked short-haul feeders in the eastern United States before Brockway Air ceased its Piedmont Commuter operations in 1987.
