1:400 Diecast: Luxair Vickers Viscount 815 LX-LGC "Prince Guillaume" (AeroClassics AC411463)

LX-LGC, constructor's number 376, first flew on 18 August 1959 at Brooklands Airfield, Weybridge, Surrey, as a Type 815 series Viscount built for Pakistan International Airlines under the registration AP-AJG. PIA leased the aircraft from Vickers-Armstrongs and operated it until April 1966, when it returned to Hawker Siddeley Aviation as part of the Trident fleet-replacement agreement. Luxair purchased c/n 376 on 12 April 1966, registering it as LX-LGC and naming it "Prince Guillaume." The aircraft carried Luxembourg passengers until 22 December 1969, when Luxair flight 303 slid off a snow-covered runway at Findel Airport on approach from Frankfurt Rhein-Main, collapsing the nose undercarriage. Declared damaged beyond economic repair, LX-LGC was scrapped in May 1970—an operational life of just over four years at Luxair.

Livery & Visual Detail

The model depicts the Luxair livery applied after the initial 1966 repaint: white upper fuselage with a light blue/turquoise cheatline running the length of the cabin, lower fuselage and wing surfaces in polished silver. The word LUXAIR appears in bold black capitals on the forward fuselage above the cheatline. The white vertical stabiliser carries the classic Luxair "L" loop logo in light blue. Registration LX-LGC appears on the underside of the port wing and on the lower tail section. The black anti-glare panel forward of the cockpit is present. Four Rolls-Royce Dart 525 turboprops with four-bladed propellers are mounted under the wings; propeller tips are yellow.

Model Craft & Collector Value

AeroClassics AC411463 captures a historically short-lived airframe: LX-LGC operated for Luxair for fewer than four years and was written off in a documented runway incident. The Vickers Viscount 800 series was the world's first turboprop airliner to achieve widespread commercial operations, and Luxembourg's national carrier Luxair flew only a small number of examples. This release is part of AeroClassics' extensive coverage of retired turboprop operators—it does not include a stand.
