9Q-CLV, MSN 45610, is a Douglas DC-8-54F that carried freight liveries through multiple operators before arriving at Air Zaïre. The airframe's history includes a complex chain of lessors and operators; in 1992, Kalitta Air traded the overhauled DC-8 to Air Zaïre as 9Q-CLV in exchange for another aircraft, 9Q-CLG. Air Zaïre, the national carrier of Zaire (present-day Democratic Republic of Congo), operated the DC-8-54F on intercontinental cargo and passenger routes until the airline's closure in the mid-1990s.

Livery & Visual Detail

The fuselage is white. A wide red cheatline runs from below the cockpit along the entire fuselage length, flanked above by a thin gold stripe and below by a thin dark-green stripe. "AIR ZAÏRE" is printed in black serif capitals on the forward fuselage above the red band. Registration 9Q-CLV appears in black on the rear fuselage. The vertical stabilizer is white with a large dark-green field extending from the trailing edge forward; within the green section, a circular emblem with a gold border depicts a stylized bird or national emblem in gold linework. A thin gold stripe caps the tail fin top. Four engines hang under the wings in grey-silver nacelles with plain round exhaust nozzles. Landing gear deployed.
