9Q-CLF traces its lineage to Pan American World Airways as N815PA, where it entered service in the early 1960s before later transferring to Air Zaïre, the national carrier of the former Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carrying MSN 45268 (line number 104), this DC-8-32 served one of Africa's few jet operators during the airline's operational years from 1971 through 1995, when Air Zaïre ceased operations. The -32 variant is a long-range development of the original DC-8, powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT4A-9 turbojets — an earlier-generation engine that predates modern high-bypass turbofans. 9Q-CLF has since been scrapped.

Livery & Visual Detail

The AeroClassics model replicates the classic Air Zaïre livery: white upper fuselage, a broad red horizontal stripe running the full length of the lower-mid fuselage, bordered immediately above and below by narrow green trim lines. The lower fuselage and belly are unpainted natural metal. The nose cone is black. "AIR ZAIRE" appears in bold black capitals on the white upper fuselage. Registration 9Q-CLF is printed in black toward the rear fuselage. The vertical stabilizer is predominantly green, with a white diagonal sweep containing the airline's circular emblem — a grasshopper or locust, the emblem of Air Zaïre — at center. Red wingtip navigation lights are visible. No winglets: the DC-8-32 carries straight, unswept wingtips. All four engine nacelles are natural metal/silver with dark inlets. Landing gear is fully deployed in static display configuration.
