1:400 Diecast: Air Canada Airbus A320-211 C-FDQQ "First A320" (AeroClassics AC411253)
C-FDQQ (MSN 059) is not just another Air Canada A320. Delivered on 19 January 1990, it was the airline's very first Airbus A320 — and at the time, one of the earliest fly-by-wire narrowbodies in service with a North American carrier. Air Canada operated it for exactly 30 years before retiring C-FDQQ in April 2020 as the COVID-19 crisis accelerated fleet drawdowns. The aircraft was subsequently stored and later scrapped, closing a chapter that stretched from the dawn of digital flight control into the widebody era. MSN 059 carries the added distinction of being one of the lowest-numbered A320s still in airline livery.
Livery & Visual Details
The model depicts Air Canada's classic red-and-white livery from the pre-2017 era: a white fuselage with a continuous red cheatline running the entire length of the fuselage at the passenger window level, meeting a fully red nose cone at the front. "Air Canada" is applied in red on the forward fuselage above the cheatline, with "Air" set slightly above a larger "Canada" in a distinctive stacked san-serif layout. The vertical stabilizer is solid red, bearing a white maple leaf roundel at center. The registration C-FDQQ appears in small dark text below the cheatline on the forward fuselage. The engine cowlings are silver-grey with a red maple leaf on the outer face. Wingtips are the classic flat A320 style — no Sharklets — consistent with the pre-modification configuration of this 1990-delivered airframe.
Model Craft & Collectibility
AeroClassics item AC411253 captures this historically significant airframe in 1:400 diecast metal. The classic red-and-white Air Canada livery has not been applied to newly delivered aircraft since 2017, meaning this color scheme is increasingly a collector's era piece. The combination of a milestone registration and a retired livery makes C-FDQQ a dual-layer collectible.
